Johnny Sauter, the son of Midwest racing legend Jim Sauter,began his racing career in 1996 when he participated in the Sportsman Division at Wisconsin Dells Motor Speedway. In 2001, Sauter captured both the Series Championship and Rookie of the Year honors in the American Speed Association. Sauter moved to the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2002, driving for Richard Childress Racing.

Sauter competed full-time in the Nationwide Series for five consecutive years (2002 – 2006) capturing three wins (Chicago, Milwaukee and Richmond). Sauter finished a career best eight in Nationwide Series points in both the 2003 and 2006 seasons.


In 2007, Johnny Sauter was chosen by Haas Racing for a full-time Sprint Cup Series position, driving the number 70 car.  In 35 starts, Sauter compiled 1 Top-Five finish and 2 Top-Ten finishes while earning $ 3,139,809.  Sauter’s consistency and determination paid off as he finished 30th in the 2007 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship.  In 2008, Sauter has competed in four Sprint Cup events while driving for Haas Racing.
